Congratulations! That’s the first step to securing your own financial freedom.
But, having a great idea and building a profitable home business are two very different things. Before you get going and start working on your new website, you need to refine your concept a little more.
Refining Your Idea Takes Time
Firstly, it’s important to note that great ideas don’t come prepackaged and ready to go like an instant microwaveable dinner.
Instead, they’re more like a nice BBQ or chili: they need to marinade and simmer for a little while before they really grow into what they can be!
That doesn’t mean that you should just sit back and relax, there’s a lot that you can do right now to make sure you’re on the right path.
Consider Your Market Needs
One problem many new ideas have is that they don’t accurately connect with the real needs that exist in the marketplace.
Instead of saying “I want to start a website about golf clubs,” you need to figure out where a specific gap is.
In general, this means making your idea much more specific.
Instead of “golf clubs” why not focus on “left-handed drivers” or “best irons for sand traps”? Use your existing knowledge of the market to figure out where you, as a consumer, would want to know more.
No matter how good you are at putting yourself in your user’s shoes, you’ll still need to spend some time educating yourself about market trends and data.
You’ll also need to make sure you have the skillset you need to make your site successful in the long term.
