There are lots of ways to make money online, but very few legitimate ways to make money online fast.
Not only that, but the fast cash options that do exist probably aren’t the ones you’re thinking of when you think about making money online. They’re options like selling your used junk on eBay, or finding a freelance consulting gig.
When I think about how to really make money online, fast doesn’t come into play. That’s because the real money is in building long term websites and businesses.
In this post I’ll talk about why a desire to make money online fast is likely to lead you astray.
Websites Take Time To Grow
Online income comes from website traffic. If you have traffic (any targeted traffic), you can figure out a way to earn money from it.
Building a website that generates substantial amounts of traffic isn’t even that difficult, it just takes time. That’s because new websites naturally need several months to gain credibility.
It takes time for your website to start to make a name for itself. It takes time for people to find and link to your content, and it takes time for search engines to recognize that and display your page more frequently.
I usually go by a 6 month rule for building a new website. That’s not to say you can’t earn money before that, but simply that you need 6 months before you’re going to start earning consistent, real money.

You Can Buy Programs Promising Fast Cash
The other reason that you’re likely to fail if you’re just looking to make a quick buck is because there are soooo many programs out there that are trying to convince you it’s possible.
Most of these programs are scams: I always joke that the fastest way to earn money is simply to convince someone you know the fastest way to earn money!
Falling for these types of false promises is one of the main reasons that people fail to achieve their online income dreams.
Instead, you need to find a reliable program to work with and invest your time into learning how to set the stage for your future success. You can read more about good beginner courses here.
Finally, it’s important to remember that unrealistic expectations lead to burnout.
Making money online is something that is possible for just about anyone, as long as you arm yourself with the right set of tools and information.
When you focus on steady, long term growth, you’re more likely to put yourself in a position of strength, since you can focus on achieving consistent objectives that will inch you closer and closer towards success.
I hope this article helps you understand why you shouldn’t try to make money online fast, but focus instead on building a long term business. If you do that, you’ll be setting yourself up for financial freedom for many years down the road.
