Step 1: Reality Check

Firstly, I want to start off with a reality check.

Blogging is not a magic money tree where you can work 5 hours and then expect to earn millions. Nor is it an immediate source of income for those in need of quick cash.

The truth behind passive income is that it usually takes 2-3 months before you see your first income, and around 6 months before your income begins to grow significantly and become more consistent.

While you can earn a nice side income working a few hours a week, most bloggers that make 6 or 7 figures annually from their blog have at one time worked full time on their business.

In other words: blogging is a real business. Like any real business, it takes time, education, and diligent work to become profitable.

Legitimate businesses don’t usually make millions overnight.

Step 2: Finding Your Passion

Once you’ve got your head in the right place, it’s time to think about what you’re passionate about.

Your personal passions and genuine interests are going to be what separates your website from the crowd. People will come to your site in order to read more about your individual perspectives, experience, and knowledge within your niche.

Not only that, but starting a blog that you’re passionate about is going to swing the odds heavily in your favor. You’ll be more likely to stick with it through the first few months to see your first traffic.

You’ll be able to power through those tough days and keep plugging along. You’ll be eager and motivated to continue because it’s something you truly care about. That’s the real difference that separates most successful blogs from those that fail.
