In this post I’ll tell you my secret trick.
Before you read on you should know I’m not a genius, I don’t have super-human powers, and I’m not even trying to sell you anything with this post.
I just think that earning money online isn’t rocket science, but most people fail for a single, really, really simple reason:
They don’t have clear goals.
Why You Need Clear Goals To Earn Cash Online
I know that goal-setting isn’t really a secret, but I call it that because of all the forums and blogs I’ve read over the years on how to make money online never once have I seen this point emphasized as a main factor in success.
I, on the other hand, think that goal setting and taking action towards those goals is the most important factor that will determine who is successful online and who isn’t.
If you need help setting those goals and figuring out how to work towards them, I recommend you follow this free training to learn how.
How To Set Clear Goals
In my mind, a good goal has three components to it:
- A good goal identifies the objective in specific and measurable way.
- A good goal identifies the resources available to use, and
- A good goal has a definite timeline to measure progress and results.
3 Examples of Unclear Goals
Let me use an example to illustrate these points. If I were to ask most people what their goals are for earning money online, I’d probably get responses like:
- I want to earn a full time income,
- I want to have some extra spending money, and
- I want to quit my day job.
Are these realistic goals? Absolutely. But they’re not good goals to have.
None of these statements gives the person a real way to measure their success. It’s not clear how much money a “full time income” is to that person, or how much money he needs to “quit his day job.”
Even worse, there’s no indication of what that person is willing to do to meet those goals, and when he wants to achieve those goals by.
3 Examples of Clear and Specific Goals
Now let’s look at an example of a better goal to set.
- I want to earn $1,000 by February 15 from 1 website, working 5 hours per week.
- One year from today, I want to be earning $1,500 per month from 1 website, working 10 hours per week.
- 3 years from today, I want to be earning $15,000 per month from 3-5 websites, working 30 hours per week.
Each of these goals is realistic. More importantly, each of these goals sets the stage for developing a clear plan of action because they each give specific numbers by which you can measure your progress.
Having clear goals like this also helps to keep you motivated.
This is extremely important when you hit those inevitable lulls. After a few months of working on your affiliate business you may have earned some money, but not yet reached your target income.
If your goal included a timeline of 12 months, however, it’s easier to see that you’re making progress towards that ultimate goal, and not get discouraged by the essential steps you’re taking now.
This is what separates those who succeed from those who don’t.
Set Your Goals Right Now
Right now, I want you to take out a pen and paper and write down your goals.
This only takes a few seconds, because chances are you already know what your goals are, you just haven’t clarified them n with specific numbers.
It’s important to write these numbers down so you can look back at them later. Then leave a comment below so they’re etched in stone and you have to follow through.
Then it’s time to take action. Get started with this free affiliate marketing training.
